Primary Purpose of Position

Position Summary
Reviews and negotiates all aspects of the Paladin/Dover Supplier Partnership program for key suppliers assigned, representing the buying community of Jewell. Understands total cost makeup of key commodities by tracking raw materials and economic indicators. Works on company-wide projects with key suppliers. Understands the critical component and connection of scheduling within the manufacturing environment. Understands all of Jewell's systems related to purchasing/planning/scheduling. Uses value analysis as well as long term strategic plans for commodities. Has a working understanding of the legal aspects of purchasing. Focus is 100% buying. Will likely perform cross-team functions at this level.
Essential Functions
- 1. Work safely and without injury.
- 2. Conducts and is responsible for activities associated with the planning function as it relates to production planning, capacity planning, inventory control management, material control management, batch-size reduction, through-put, lead time reduction and forecasting.
- 3. Responds to production's requests and purchase requisitions expediently and prudently while obtaining the best possible cost.
- 4. Monitors the MRP (Material Requirement Planning) report and responds to changes as they occur in open purchase orders.
- 5. Acts as a purchasing resource for all of Jewell. Trains teams in related areas as needed.
- 6. Coordinates and negotiates contracts for the procurement of goods, services, capital equipment and production components
- 7. Performs cost and value analysis when applicable.
- 8. Conducts visitations to vendor facilities. Determines the positive or negative value of the service or product offered as it relates to company purchase requirements.
- 9. Responsible for consultation on all purchasing matters.
- 10. Responsible for prompt and regular attendance as scheduled.
- 11. Accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in assigned area. Responsible for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including a self-assessment and report to management.
- 12. Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned area.
Required Education and/or Experience
- 1. Experience in all phases of purchasing within a manufacturing environment required.
Required Qualifications
- 1. Working knowledge of Word and Excel required.
- 2. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- 3. Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
- 4. Ability to effectively problem-solve.
- 5. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- 6. Ability to facilitate activities necessary to a project's completion.
- 7. Experience with MRP (especially Syteline) will be extremely helpful.
Language Skills
Ability to read, write, verbalize and comprehend instructions and correspondence at the highest levels in the English language. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients, and other team members. Conflict resolution skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and customer service skills.
Mathematical Skills
Must have mathematical skills equivalent to those required under degree requirement.
Machines, Tools Equipment, Software
Personal computer, fax machine, copy machine, other office equipment, Microsoft Office. Travel may be necessary as actual job duties and vendors require.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to read and interpret policies/procedures/department guidelines/safety rules and regulations. Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in written form effectively with co-workers, departments, supervisor and customers/vendors as job dictates.
Reasoning Ability
With minimal supervision, demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems, interpret, resolving problems and issues using a variety of instructions or guides furnished in written, oral, diagram, or policy/procedure form.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The performance of this position normally requires exposure to a manufacturing office environment. Occasional exposure to typical manufacturing areas may be required and will require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection. Office lighting will be provided.
